The chum salmon is one of the five salmon species. They spawn successfully in a variety of streams, mainstreams and tributaries distributed along the BC coast. Salmon have a preferred stream substrate that consists of three sizes of rocks, which keep the water flowing steadily. The large boulders provide shelter, cobble stabilizes the bottom and gravel is important for the spawning nest. Through the month of October, Goldstream park in Victoria is a popular area for observing the chum spawning.
