Deep in the Cariboo region of British Columbia a lone sunflower grows in the clear-cut debris and scorched earth. The ruins are the remains of a once-flourishing pine forest that was recently destroyed by the mountain pine beetle and climate change. However, the tree planter’s legacy is all around, so tread carefully. Underfoot is an assortment of tiny seedlings, and like the sunflower, each seedling brings a sense of renewal and enduring hope to this devastated landscape.
